Christopher J. Bednar – Controller
Chris joined The Convergence Group (TCG) as Controller in March 2017, and brings over 30 years of experience primarily in the areas of Accounting Operations, Financial Controls and Financial Reporting & Analysis.
Prior to joining TCG, Chris served for 12 years (2005-2017) as Corporate Controller for The Spectranetics Corporation, a publicly-held manufacturer of medical devices marketed worldwide.
During his tenure at Spectranetics (based in Colorado Springs), Chris was responsible for leading the building of an accounting/reporting team commensurate with revenue growth from $38M in 2005 to $270M in 2016. He also participated in due diligence for multiple acquisitions as well as three public debt/equity raises.
Chris’ other significant experience includes 10 years (1988-1998) with Lam Research Corporation in Fremont, CA, a publicly-held equipment supplier to the global semiconductor manufacturing industry with revenue of over $1 billion. He held a number of finance and accounting positions there, including Director of Corporate Accounting. Chris began his career at the international CPA firm of Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) from 1982-1988.
Clem M. Borkowski – Managing Director
As Managing Director, Clem’s primary responsibility is the strategic direction of The Convergence Group (“TCG”). Clem also leads healthcare and operating entity transactions for TCG’s managed companies. This involves the oversight of the development, underwriting, due diligence, and deal structure strategies. Clem is a “boots-on-the-ground” leader and often does site visits, investor update videos and in-person research of the companies and managers of the TCG managed assets. He is actively involved in the legal, regulatory compliance, and investor relations for TCG and its managed companies. Clem sits on numerous boards, including Rock Regional Hospital, an acute care hospital in Kansas and Thorin Resources, a mining company located in Colorado. Clem is frequently invited to speak at industry conferences around the country.
From his humble beginnings as a commercial roofing laborer during high school to a sergeant in the US Marine Corps he has exhibited leadership and recognized for his technical skill in his related fields. Troubleshooting issues and implementing solutions across a wide range of industries including retail, finance, banking, hospitality, construction trades, and healthcare is one of Clem’s strengths and why people consider him an “out of the box” thinker. He went on to become an independent financial advisor and co-found a private mortgage banking/brokerage and later ended his lending career at one of the nation’s largest private mortgage banks to focus exclusively on the inefficient private capital markets. He co-founded a Registered Investment Advisory firm specializing in alternative assets and consulting Investment Advisors, institutional investors and issuers. Clem is also one of the founding members of ASI Capital.
Originally from the Hoosier state, Clem grew up enjoying the great outdoors and moved to Colorado where he married his high school sweetheart and began raising their 2 daughters and special needs son. When not strategizing the future of TCG, Clem enjoys spending time “Jeeping” in the mountains, golfing, and snorkeling the waters by his home in Puerto Rico.
Brian Cross – Asset Manager
Brian is the Asset Manager at The Convergence Group (TCG) and has an extensive business background to include over twenty years of transactional experience focused on consultative sales, analysis, valuation, and deal structuring as a principal in a Denver-based business brokerage firm and an investment banker. He has also held operational roles as a COO and/or BDO in four Colorado companies ranging from start-ups to mature businesses. Brian is a graduate of the Untied States Air Force Academy and former pilot of the A-10 Thunderbolt II, fondly known as the Warthog, and is active in his church and community.
C. Ryan Dunham – Chief Executive Officer
As CEO and Chairman of the board for The Convergence Group, Ryan is responsible to implement the vision, leadership, and strategic direction set by the Board. Ryan overseas operations and drives the organizational culture. This entails implementing and overseeing internal process, controls, and the deployment of resources across the organization. Ryan is directly involved with the TCG portfolio of managed companies with a focus on the hospitality initiatives. Over the years, Ryan has sat on several company boards and is currently on the board for Elevation Hotel Management, a hospitality management company located in Texas as well as PeakMed, a direct primary care provider located in Colorado.
Ryan draws from over 25 years of business, management and leadership experience in both nonprofit and for-profit businesses. With over 20 years at the Sr. Executive level, he has lead businesses in several industries, including distribution, publishing, music and media. Ryan’s experience in mergers and acquisitions has proven to be invaluable to The Convergence Group as we look for other business to be in the management portfolio. He has a track record of success in leading company acquisitions and in turning around failing businesses. Ryan was recruited to join a large international non-profit publishing and distribution organization where he served as Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He subsequently served as president of one of world’s largest independent record labels and song publishing companies with domestic offices in Colorado Springs, CO and Nashville, TN with international offices in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Originally from the great state of Ohio, Mr. Dunham holds a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University. When Ryan is not plotting TCG’s world dominance, he is married and father to two young men. He enjoys golf, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and traveling the world. Over the course of his international business career, he was fortunate enough to travel to over 30 countries enjoying the food, local cultures and learning from every person he meets.
DIRK FLAHERTY – Chief Compliance Officer, Investor Relations
As Chief Complaince Officer, Investor Relations, Dirk Flaherty works to develop and deliver a communications plan that achieves the vision and strategy of The Convergence Group. Through building relationships with our clients, Dirk works to enhance the company’s reputation and brand positioning by placing the clients needs in top priority.
Dirk has over 20 years of experience in executive management within the Risk Management and Compliance arenas across a variety of industries including finance, telecommunications, luxury travel, and transportation. He has served on the boards of several private equity startup companies and has been instrumental on launching those companies as well as seeing them through run steady operations.
Joining the Convergence Group gave Dirk the opportunity to return to Private Equity and put his skills to use assisting the leadership team in growing and aligning the company with the core values, vision, and mission that the company was founded on.
Dirk, and his wife Holly have two sons, both of which are still in school. The family enjoys travel and tries to visit at least one new destination every year. Both Dirk and Holly feel that travel is an important part of their children’s education and experiencing new cultures and people greatly enhance the boy’s lives.
MEGHAN HATARI – Office Administrator
Meghan Hatari joined The Convergence Group as an Office Administrator in October 2018. Coming from a strategic government supplier, Meghan is now actively involved in the day-to-day development with the investor relations utilizing her talents and strong interpersonal skills.
In her previous roles, Meghan supported the Federal Government with technology peripherals and support during large installations. She has experience with ISO 9001 internal auditing and OSHA standards. She graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in International Politics. During her time away from the office, Meghan enjoys hiking and outdoor sports. She has a miniature Aussie and an oversized tabby.
Sean A. Hawkins – Managing Director
As Managing Director, Sean’s primary responsibility is directing all capital activity and asset management for The Convergence Group (“TCG”) managed companies. He leads the real estate, credit and operating entity transactions for the company including the development, underwriting, due diligence, and deal structure activities. He is actively involved in the legal, asset management, and capital markets for TCG managed companies. Sean holds numerous board positions, including Rock Medical Assets GM, an acute care hospital project in Kansas, Thorin Resources, a mining company located in Colorado, and Foresite, a full service real estate firm in Chicago. Sean also chairs the asset management committees for TCG’s actively managed partnerships.
Sean began his professional career as the regional financial director of a global non-profit organization before transitioning to mortgage brokering and banking. Founding his own firm, he was a mortgage banker for over a decade where he finetuned his risk mitigation and underwriting assessment skillset. Sean went on to co-found a Registered Investment Advisory firm specializing in alternative assets and consulting Investment Advisors, institutional investors and issuers. Sean is still a Registered Investment Advisor, holds a series 65 license and has over 20 years’ experience in the financial industry. Sean is also one of the founding members of ASI Capital.
Sean has studied on three continents and has traveled to almost 40 countries including every continent except Antarctica. When he’s not spending money for the company, he enjoys golf, watching sports and traveling with his wife and three young boys.
FRANTZ MELIO, MD – Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Frantz Melio is the Chief Medical Office at The Convergence Group (TCG). Dr. Melio has over 25 years of experience in hospital and medical group leadership. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for The Convergence Group and Partners Health, private equity firms. Dr. Melio’s roles include the review, implementation, and analysis of current clinical programs and potential investments.
Previously, he served as the Chief Strategy Officer for the University of New Mexico Health System. His responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of University of New Mexico Health System strategies, both internal and external.
Prior to his position at the University of New Mexico, he had responsibility for a multi-specialty physician practice, served the interim Chief Medical Officer, and was a member of the Senior Executive team at CHRISTUS St Vincent. Dr. Melio has also served as CEO/CMO of Hospital-based physician practices for CHRISTUS Health.
Frantz has had significant experience in strategy, operations, and governance of hospitals, medical staffs, and physician practices. He has led numerous successfully operational turn-around, as well as development and implementation of new programs and facilities.
Frantz graduated from New York Medical College and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California. He has remained active in academics with numerous publications.
Debbie Patterson – Senior Accountant
A Colorado Springs native, Debbie joined The Convergence Group (TCG) as a Senior Accountant in May 2018, bringing more than 20 years of Accounting Operations experience that spans the spectrum from small businesses to publicly held corporations. Debbie’s diverse accounting background includes a period of business ownership, which she considers the most influential and educational time of her career. She took that experience with her to two publicly held corporations where her unique understanding of the multiple facets of business promoted opportunities for her to grow in her field and in leadership
Karen Root – Senior Accountant
Karen Root is a licensed CPA and Senior Accountant who joined The Convergence Group (TCG) in February 2018. Her 20+ years of experience include Fortune 500 companies such as Apple Computer, Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies and Royal Philips as well as several smaller organizations in a variety of industries. During her career, Karen has actively participated in several business mergers, acquisitions and divestitures including the $8-billion spinoff of Agilent Technologies from Hewlett-Packard in 1999. Before joining TCG, Karen served for 12 years as Accounting Manager for The Spectranetics Corporation, a publicly-held medical device manufacturer located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Joe Schiff – President and CFO
Joe as the Chief Financial Officer at The Convergence Group (TCG), is involved in every aspect of the company with an emphasis on financial matters where his extensive background as a licensed CPA and Chief Financial Officer are most valuable. Joe is bilingual in “English” and “Accountant” and often comes alongside the CFO’s, CPA’s, and Controllers of TCG’s managed companies to analyze financial records and find efficiencies and cost savings. Known as a spreadsheet wizard, Joe is integral reviewing and creating financial models, capital formation, and accounting systems for TCG’s managed companies. Joe is a member of the board of directors for Foresite Realty Partners, a Chicago based commercial property management firm as well as Fortitude Medical Management, which manages a 5-Star physician owned hospital in El Paso, TX.
Early in Joseph’s career, he was a practicing public accountant at Price -Waterhouse Coopers working in a variety of capacities including tax compliance, SEC compliance, MIS consulting, business planning, and emerging business practices. He has been an innovative financial and operations professional in and out of the public accounting arena for the past three decades. In addition to his time in public accounting, he has successfully launched, managed and sold two separate businesses with gross revenues of $150M with one exiting in a public roll up and the other selling to private equity. His experience has gained him great insight into the financial and operations strategies that make companies successful. He specializes in the selection and development of management teams and strategic partners to formulate and execute profitable businesses.
Hailing originally from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Joe now lives in Puerto Rico and vacations in Colorado. Joe spends his “out of office” time with his wife, hiking in the Puerto Rican mountains and jungles or along the miles of beaches. Joseph also enjoys mentoring entrepreneurs and coaching life skills into his children and grandchildren
